Rounton Coffee reflects on a year of growth, sustainability and community engagement

A North Yorkshire-based coffee roastery has celebrated a year of milestones, environmental initiatives and community impact.

Rounton Coffee has seen out 2024 with a series of significant achievements, highlighting its commitment to quality, sustainability and community engagement.

In line with its pledge to 1% for the Planet, the company continued to donate 1% of its turnover to environmental causes. Through this commitment, the team strengthened their involvement with local environmental organisations, becoming corporate members of the Ouseburn Trust and Ribble Rivers Trust. In addition, they invested in the future by purchasing 15 mature trees through the North York Moors Trust, which will be planted by the team at the Hole of Horcum in 2025.

Rounton Coffee’s dedication to quality was recognised widely this year. The company earned seven prestigious Great Taste Awards, with Daybreak Blend receiving an esteemed two-star rating from the judges. Their commitment to exceptional specialty coffee continued with Sparkling Water Decaf winning silver in the coffee category at the Great British Food Awards. Additionally, Rounton Coffee’s Brazilian Pinhal was highly commended at the Deliciously Yorkshire Taste Awards. The year brought over 15 new coffee launches, several of which were advanced processed Colombian coffees, that showcased the latest developments in coffee production, and led the team to unofficially declare 2024 the “Year of Colombia.”

Reflecting on its ongoing dedication to quality and sustainability, the roastery introduced a state-of-the-art Loring S35 Kestrel coffee roaster. This new addition not only allows the team to roast larger volumes of coffee more efficiently but also helps reduce the company’s environmental footprint by cutting down on roasting time and energy use. This year also marked a major milestone for the team as they welcomed six new members of staff and celebrated 10 years in business.

Founder David Beattie summed up the year by saying: “This year has certainly been one to remember!

“From upgrading our roasting capabilities and expanding our team to supporting local communities and environmental causes, I am incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished.

“We’re excited to continue this journey and make 2025 even better – for our customers, our wholesale partners and the planet.”
