Paul Card Recruitment, a finance and accounting recruitment firm in the North East, is celebrating its record month, quarter and year.

Paul Card, Director of Paul Card Recruitment, started the business in his front bedroom, leaving his secure recruitment job with no financial backing. Since then, Paul Card Recruitment has worked with some of the area’s biggest companies to help them secure the best accounting and finance candidate.

The team at Paul Card is celebrating a record month this year, exceeding their budget by 83%.

Following the record month back in November 2021, Paul rewarded the staff with a weekend away to Liverpool for the weekend, partners included, all expenses paid. The financial year started with a record month and just 12 months later, the team has smashed that record again!

Paul Card Recruitment, which is based at Wynyard, has managed to outstrip the previous record by 20%, set in the first month of the financial year. In addition, they have exceeded the quarter by being 20% ahead of growth.

In the past year, the business has experienced 57% growth with an additional 75% growth in staff members. One of these new members included hiring a marketing executive onto a permanent contract after the successful completion of their marketing degree.

Paul is now looking to continue developing the staff internally with some career development opportunities. Senior staff members have enrolled in leadership and management qualifications to help develop the next generation of leaders.

Paul identified early on in his business, that not only was it important to hire people with the correct technical skills, but also transferable skills. He believes in nurturing his staff’s development, both personally and professionally.

Paul has also been focusing a lot on the culture within Paul Card Recruitment in the past year. In Quarter 2, the team came together following the appointment of two new staff members, and the entire staff spent time away from the office to redefine their Vision, Mission, and Values.

Paul wanted the team members to have a say in the Vision, Mission, and Values of the company. The Vision is to help people find happiness at work; because happy people build better businesses and lead more fulfilling lives. The new values implemented at Paul Card, have also served a purpose as a way to reward staff. When the team at the recruitment firm first created the new values, they then discussed how they can embed the values into their everyday roles. It was then decided that at the end of each month, the team would nominate someone who best lived the values.

In addition, Paul has since enhanced the internal benefits for staff, by increasing the progression for annual leave for the team from 33 to 38 days. In addition, both maternity and paternity leave has been increased, with paternity leave increasing to 1 month’s worth of full pay and maternity increasing to 3 months’ worth of full pay. These changes were implemented following a review of benefits, including the addition of private health care and a medical cash-back plan.

Ahead of 2023, Paul is looking to grow the team again in 2023. Paul feels confident that the team can continue to grow through 2023, with the newly implemented staff benefits and internal staff development.
