A behavioural consultancy has won a new contract with Education Development Trust, prime contractors of the National Careers Service, to deliver an ageing workforce programme in the North East.

Working on the Fuller Working Lives initiative, Duo Global Consulting will deliver workshops to local businesses, helping employers to retain, retrain and recruit older workers.

The contract win follows a successful pilot workshop in 2018 and will cover training needs analysis, awareness of our ageing workforce, the importance of succession planning and workforce development strategy.

As a nation, we are living fuller, healthier lives, and as a result of this, UK workers are in employment for a longer period of time. These workshops aim to engage businesses in supporting staff members who would like to explore their career options past 50 years old.

The workshops are free, full day training sessions for businesses of all sizes and Duo is offering complementary, bespoke consultancy sessions to attendees, giving businesses the opportunity to discuss their approach to an ageing workforce in more detail.

Analysis of the British Social Attitudes survey showed that just 39 per cent of those who had already retired did so because they wanted to, meaning that 61 per cent of people who retired wanted to work longer or they were unable to work.

Increasing the number of older workers in employment gives individuals the opportunity to enjoy a fuller working life, provides a boost for employers and benefits the national economy.
