A North East business which was started in the midst of personal tragedy has evolved from a one-person agency with the recruitment of a new Creative Director.
Content By The Sea, an independent business run by 28-year-old Ellen Forster, started in March 2019 as a freelance copywriter and web design as a way to work flexibly whilst supporting her mother’s battle against pancreatic cancer.
While the business grew, her mother sadly passed away in April 2019, which gave Ellen renewed drive to focus on her business and ensure she could continue to work in a way more befitting to her lifestyle and mental health.
After producing websites for a range of clients across the North East and signing content retainers with some of the region’s biggest digital agencies and brands, Content By The Sea became a VAT-registered, limited company in September 2020.
Ellen now works alongside her fiancé Craig Thomas Boyle, a copywriter and content marketing with over eight years’ experience in the field. Craig joins Content By The Sea as Creative Director and will work with Ellen to expand and refine the business’ content creation offering – including web copywriting, lead-generation, email marketing and content marketing strategy.
Ellen’s personal journey has witnessed her overcome one of life’s biggest challenges whilst also growing a successful business and becoming part of many of the North East’s networking groups.
On her new business partner, Ellen is enthusiastic: “I’ve always wanted to work with Craig but we originally planned to use his full time salary as security whilst I grew the business.
“Luckily I’ve been successful from the start so it was just a matter of time.”
Craig, who vacated a Head of Content role at Inspired Agency, commented on his motivations for joining the business: “Working together and from home is fantastic and it’s what I’ve wanted for a long time – but the Coronavirus pandemic really hit my mental health hard and made me realise I don’t want to go back to a standard office job.
“I’m delighted to bring my experience to the business and help grow it together to support our future.”
With both young professionals holding many years of experience in digital marketing, content creation and web design, Content By The Sea aims for a stellar 2021.
