Barratt and David Wilson Homes North East has reported significant social, economic and environmental contributions to local communities during 2024.
Between January and December, the housebuilder built 616 new homes across the region, supporting 1,368 jobs through its own business and that of its suppliers and subcontractors in the process. This boost to the regional housing market and construction industry was supported by a £1.8million investment in physical infrastructure works, including environmental and highway improvements, affordable homes and improved community facilities.
As a result of the new homes built, Barratt and David Wilson Homes North East helped to support £12million spent in shops and services within the area, supporting retail and service-related jobs. The housebuilder also made £55,600 worth of charitable donations to support those in need within the area.
2024 also saw the housebuilder reinforce its commitment to creating homes for nature. The business created four hectares of greenspace across the region, which is the equivalent to six football pitches, helping to support wildlife on and around its sites. Its commitment to environmental sustainability also saw the housebuilder reduce its CO2 emissions by 31% against its 2018 benchmark, and reduce its construction waste by 43%.
100% of developments were designed with Sustainable Urban Drainage systems, whilst 26 different species were protected through various methods, including the installation of 26 bat boxes across its developments.
Carl Sobolewski, Managing Director for Barratt and David Wilson Homes North East, said: “We’re so pleased that we have been able to make such significant contributions to the region over the past year. Our customers remain at the heart of our work, which is why creating communities to support their needs sits at the forefront of our goals. We look forward to building on these results into 2025.”
