A local opticians in Hartlepool is set to welcome two new faces to its growing team as well as a director promotion and a £38,000 investment in new technology.

Specsavers in Middleton Grange is welcoming two new members of staff and a current optometrist is stepping up to become a new partner who will join current store directors Ian Walker and Steven Wheatley.

Cian Murphy joined the company as optometrist and now has a share in business as a store director and will help to oversee the running of the store.

Two new optometrists are also joining the team with Ash Karim starting the role this month whilst Vithiyamary Alphons will join the store in July taking the total number of optometrists in store rise to six. The store also has a total of six dispensing opticians.

The new team members are joining at an exciting time for the store as last month the store took ownership of the Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) machine.

The store invested £38,000 in 3D scanning technology which allows optometrists to view the eye in more detail than ever before.

Store director, Ian Walker, says: ‘We are delighted to welcome Ash and Vithiyamary to the team.

‘Cian has been a valued member of the team for years so his promotion to director is well earned, we have a great, dynamic team at the moment.

‘It is an incredibly exciting time in store especially at a time where there is such a shortage of optometrists in the North East region.

‘The investment of the OCT machine is also important as it gives our team the ability to enhance our services to the local community by identifying and helping to detect or manage conditions.’

OCT scans are available as part of an enhanced sight test and can be requested when the appointment is booked or when a customer arrives in store. The enhanced sight test is available for just £10.
