A Bishop Auckland garage which underwent a huge transformation to concentrate on more car repairs and tyre sales is posting record sales – and is gearing up for even more after partnering with the First Stop network.

RMH Vehicle Services has steered towards everyday automotive work since taking over from Abraham Vehicle Services which used to focus on engine rebuilds and HGV maintenance. The business is now reporting up to £9,000 in sales per month and is promising to keep on growing with First Stop, who have invested £10,000 in new signage for the business.

Owner David Dinsdale took control in April 2021 and immediately steered the garage towards a ‘one-stop-shop’ for motorists, installing MOT and servicing equipment and prioritising automotive repairs and tyre sales.

The bold decision, taken against a particularly challenging economic backdrop, is now paying off, and David is continuing to strengthen by becoming a First Stop member which has paved the way for an external and internal refurbishment along with access to Bridgestone’s premium range of tyres.

National network First Stop approached David to become a partner as part of its plan to open 220 centres by 2024. As well as an eye-catching new look and feel – which has positioned RMH Vehicle Services as flag bearers for other garages across the UK to follow – an e-shop online platform to allow for online bookings of MOTs, services and tyres has also been implemented.

The business will also benefit from round-the-clock access to Bridgestone and Firestone tyre portfolios and industry leading staff training, marketing support and Google Business profile management.

RMH Vehicle Services, whose initials are named after David’s children Ruth, Michael and Harry, is looking ahead to even more growth from now on, with the owner’s business philosophy remaining the same as ever.

“We are proud of the personal service we provide and taking care of each and every customer who visits us. Each motorist who visits us is valued so highly by us and when they come back to us at a later date or refer their friends and family too us, then we know we’re doing the right things.”

David, aged 50, is from the local area and his 21-year-old son Harry is following in his footsteps as a technician.

He said: “Harry makes me very proud and he’s doing ever so well. He’s great with our customers and is eager to keep learning, so I’m hoping he can keep driving the business forward, long after I have retired!”

First Stop’s Retail Business Consultant Nick Salt said RMH Vehicle Services was a target for him and the network for a long time, having known David for many years and even living in Toft Hill near eachother.

Nick said: “David is exactly the type of business owner we want to partner with at First Stop. He operates to the same principles, provides an incredible service and is a highly respected professional. We are constantly on the lookout for garages that are synonymous with the local communities in which they serve, and RMH Vehicle Services fits this category.”
