Ambitious plans for a £15m residential scheme – to complete an emerging quarter of Newcastle – have been unveiled.
Jomast Developments acquired the former Scottish Life House Estate, close to the Central Motorway where Newcastle city centre edges into Jesmond, in 2004.
It is now home to the popular Jesmond Three Sixty scheme which features, apartments, offices and a range of bars and restaurants including; As You Like It and Mr Lynch, with a hotel, serviced apartments, gym, retail space and a multi-storey car park to follow.
Now, Jomast has unveiled exciting plans for a conjoined residential scheme of 12 and 18 storeys featuring around 85 apartments.
The proposals will go on show at a Public Consultation event from 3-7pm on Thursday July 11 at As You Like It. This has been organised by Jomast and its planning consultant Lichfields.
Jomast’s Development Director, Adam Hearld, said: “This proposal will create an impressive residential development and complete the highly successful Jesmond Three Sixty scheme.
“It follows the success of ONE Jesmond Three Sixty, an 80 unit privately rented apartment scheme and displays Jomast’s confidence in the city.
“It will create a landmark development which demonstrates that Newcastle is the ambitious and forward-thinking capital of the North East region, with aspirations for growth, reflected in high-quality and ambitious architecture.”
The earmarked site, adjacent to Jesmond Road, was previously occupied by the Quaker Meeting House, which was demolished in 2018.
The proposed development would take place in tandem with the transformation of Sandyford House – which has permission for conversion into apartments – and a multi-storey car park, earmarked for the south west corner of the site.
Jomast says the new scheme – designed by local architects GT3 – will feature private doorstep gardens and terraces, as well as communal rooftop gardens giving residents panoramic views across the city.
The new proposals, are designed to deliver housing for private rental targeting young professionals and graduates with opportunities for commercial and leisure uses on the lower floors.
The 18-storey tower will be a total of 57 metres in height. The emerging Hadrian’s Tower on St James’ Boulevard will be 82 metres when complete.
GT3 has previously been praised for its work at Jesmond Three Sixty after re-purposing some of the existing buildings – such as Eaga House; ‘transforming their appearance from concrete office blocks to softer buildings in a warmer palette of brick, stone, metal and glass’.
When complete, Jomast will have invested a total of over £35m into Jesmond Three Sixty.
